With 2017 being VCR's last known release, many thought that the band had gone quietly into the night, to never hit a fuzzed-out note on their big muffs again... In 2019 rumors that the band had sadly perished off the Gulf of Mexico while submerging to dangerous depths in their homemade submarine had circulated on TMZ, but no one could corroborate the story or the band’s whereabouts.
It wasn't until late 2023 that popular Canadian Vlogger, CandyCrush Pro, and part-time internet sleuth 'TwitchBoy69' posted a mysterious screenshot of what looked to be an email from Youth Riot Records, thanking an individual from PID Co. for the “individual rights of VCR personas” as well as a confirmation of a $420,000.00 wire transfer initiated to PID Co. on Youth Riot’s behalf. The internet was set ablaze with this information, even crashing Bing’s servers for several hours. What did it mean, who or what is PID Co., why was Youth Riot paying this large lump sum to an otherwise unknown entity, and why was VCR mentioned in the email?
Luckily, TwitchBoy69’s loyal minions also known as Twitcheez went to work, digging deeper into the case. On Feb. 19, 2024, Reddit user “CostanzaJeans” posted to a Neil Diamond Fan Page subreddit and busted the entire case wide open. In a link that led to a 608pg PDF document outlining the entire fan-driven investigation, the public finally got some answers. Who was PID Co.? Well the company, who is actually owned by Heelys, is a company that makes replicas of stars and past presidents out of mannequins and ChatGPT drivers for voice mimicking.
What does PID Co. stand for? Paul Is Dead Company… the same company accused of replacing the original Paul McCartney during the height of Beatlemania! What about the large wired payment from Youth Riot? Well, after posing as a potential buyer, CostanzaJeans was quoted $140,000.00 per replica. 3 members of VCR, 3 replicas, total price = $420,000.00 the exact amount the screenshot showed. Coincidence? Well, it’s possible. Until CostanzaJeans uncovered an Instagram post from Jan. 3rd 2024, announcing that Youth Riot was excited to be releasing VCR’s new album, SEASON 3 coming August 30th!
When Youth Riot founders were questioned by TMZ they quickly rode off on electric scooters, repeating “no comment.”
